Shimon Gambourg is an internationally acclaimed, New York based bassist and composer, committed to bringing out the individuality in every musical setting he encounters. The diversity of his work has granted him a steady stream of activity, with the past year alone seeing him collaborate with Miguel Zenón and the Nordpool Orkest in Europe, as well as the Manhattan School of Music Jazz Orchestra featuring Ingrid Jensen, which he composed for and conducted at Jazz at Lincoln Center.Shimon is a two-time ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award winner, a four-time America-Israel Cultural Foundation “Creative Excellence Grant” recipient, and was recently interviewed by the Jerusalem Post and Haaretz. Gaining traction on the New York scene, he is currently working on a book of arrangements for a new all-star band, featuring Randy Brecker, James Carter, Russell Malone and Vincent Herring.Originally from Israel, Shimon has first arrived in the U.S. in 2016 to study at the Berklee College of Music on a full-tuition scholarship, before moving on to the Manhattan School of Music to complete his Masters in Jazz Composition, graduating in 2022. His teachers include Mike Holober, John Patitucci, and James Genus.
